No, IEBC commissioner Irene Masit has not resigned

False

Donald Kipkorir, the lawyer for suspended electoral commissioner Irene Masit, denied reports that the commissioner has resigned.

Francis Wanderi, the third of the four commissioners to resign, filed his resignation on December 8, 2022, citing a predetermined decision. Justus Nyang’aya and vice chairperson Juliana Cherera resigned as well.

Masit is one of four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials suspended from office by President William Ruto on December 1, pending an investigation into their conduct following the August 9 presidential election fiasco.

The decision followed a recommendation by the National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC).
